We have entered 2010 with a big bang. 2010 King Cobra Karate Open was a huge turnout and was efficiently run to make it very comfortable for the competitors. A special thanks to Master’s Dale McCutcheon, Joe Ruvelo and Ms Darla Medal who ran each the ballrooms to keep the tournament moving. There are too many more to list that deserve my thanks as well and that I am grateful.
At Friday Nights Events, the Best of the Best tournament was a great way to get into the groove for the Saturday PKC rated tournament. It was highlighted by the International Team Fight, Great Britain coached by Shihan Eddie Malinowski and Canada coached by Master Blake Patterson vs. Michigan PKC1 coached by Sensei Connel Loveless and Pennsylvania PKC4 coached by Master Hillary Weston and Master Brian Arrington.
With a sad note earlier the Canadian team bowed out to an injury to one of the team members who needed to go to the emergency room. This is a display of true team spirit to stay together to the emergency room and bowing out which was a sacrifice that had to be made. This gave team Michigan a forfeit with team PKC4and GB left to fight. The action in this fight turned out to be the most fantastic fight of the night. Team GB took off in the first two fights taking a 10 –1 lead over PKC4 with nine fights left it came down to the very last fight with GB having a four point lead. Master Lloyd Allen for GB vs. Master Dwayne McKinney for PKC4 with a five point cap we could hope for a 5-1 win to tie, With only one minute allowed for each fight Master McKinney exploded with a 5-0 victory and won it for the entire team. PKC1 and PKC4 were next. The fight went on to a victory for the PKC4 team with PKC1 runner up. The entire evening was filled with energy.
The competitors turned it up when they met in the arena on Saturday morning. With a lot of new faces meant new opponents that made it more exciting. Both days many talented Martial Artists passed through the doors especially the Black Belts.
Saturday night we hosted out banquet and gave large plaques to our 2009 CHAMPIONS. Afterwards we adjoined to the lounge where Master Al Stergi and his lovely partner Kelly sang for our after tournament celebration honoring our guests from Great Britain and Canada.
PKC4 will have a new look but now we have a point tracking system to make things easier for the competitor. Although were under construction, let me tell you about our upcoming lineup of our PKC4 tournament Spring schedule.
Next in our lineup is Master Frank and Master Nancy Caliguri’s 38th Pittsburgh Karate Championships held at Valley High School, New Kensington, PA Saturday March 13, 2010. Phone 724 335 9300 Thirty-Eight years is the longest run tournament in Pennsylvania. This is a double point National and Triple point Regional rated event.
As a special bonus, competitors from Regions 1 – 2 – 3 will receive regional points as well as National point at our events. That works both ways because now Region IV members can receive Region IV points at Region 1 – 2 – 3 tournaments. This is a new coop between the Regions to crank it up for the competitor that want to bring their point’s home with them instead of just National points. PKC is working together to keep the champion minded competitor access. Which means for those of you that have taken the lead in making history in PKC competition this year will have the advantage.
Our next tournament is the Master Bill Adams Champions Challenge Martial Arts Open held at St Leo the Great School in Amherst, NY Saturday April 17, 2010 Phone 716 668 5004. This is a Double National and Regional point tournament.
In between these two tournament is Master Dale McCutcheon’s Land of Legend Saturday April 10, 2010 in Louisville, OH 330 699 8600. This is a Triple National and Regional event.
On May 15, 2010 Master Bill LaVoice will hold the Lion’s Den Karate and Grappling Championships held at the Beaver Valley High School in Beaver, PA. 724 495 7646. This event is a Single National and Double Regional rated event.
is our Spring lineup and will look forward to see you in the arena competing to be the best and making it known that in 2010 you will go down in the history books as the 2010 Regional Champion. Good sportsmanship, comradery, and respect will make those goals become a reality.
