This is the final month to get PKC points before the International / National season ends. (July 7) Many competitors have waited all year for this and may be locked in or still scrambling for points. This is the thrill of competition when it is very close. Two or three competitors vying for the top spot for the PKC title. Although this ends the National season we are right in the middle of the Region IV season. That takes a little pressure off the National race and gives the PKC competitor the chance to prepare for the Regional title.
Last weekend Papo and Lynn Villarubias 12th Annual Greater Rochester Open was a huge success. The well-planned and executed tournament had many talented Martial Artist testing their skills against worthy opponent from both the USA and Canada. The grappling has become a part of many martial art tournaments and is growing. The interest has no age or gender limitations, which surprised me when I observed young girls displaying excellent grappling abilities on the mat. Their strength and stamina is impressive.
The tournament went much faster this year allowing competitors and their familys an early start on the trip home. The teamwork of Ed Troutman, Diane and Ron Cain, Hillary Weston and Bill Adams working the floor aggressively kept the rhythm and flow of the event easy for me to announce. Many smiling faces could be seen as the kids divisions finished and they marched off the floor proud of their trophies.

Master Bill Adams hosted his first tournament in twelve years in his spacious and magnificent Dojo. With almost 150 competitors the tournament ran like a fine-toothed machine and problem free. The PKC turnout provided excellent competion for all with exciting Martial Arts skills displayed for all that attended. This event was split into a morning tournament for the children and an afternoon tournament for the adults. The tournament ended early and everyone enjoyed the beautiful awards presented. Many PKC members acquired last minute points before the National season ended securing their perspective National titles.
